In a recent print edition, Sport mentioned that Everton are showing interest in Barcelona forward Memphis Depay this summer. It has been claimed that the Toffees are among a number of Premier League clubs chasing the Dutch sensation before the end of this transfer window.
Depay’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football Last Season
Depay had a decent campaign at the Nou Camp recently as he managed to put in a series of influential displays for Barca in the final third. The Dutch talent made 37 appearances for the Catalan club last season, finding the back of the net on 13 occasions and earning two assists in various competitions.
The 28-year-old performed well in the attacking end of the pitch based on his average of 2.2 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in La Liga. He even took care of the ball well when linking up play with others around him after making 82.1% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Will Depay Bring To Everton?
Depay has got the eye to play a killer pass in the final third and can make a few intelligent runs with the ball in behind the opponent’s backline. He is even proficient at engineering some space for himself to get a few shots in on-target.
Someone of the Dutch attacker’s skillset will be a massive coup for a club like Everton as Frank Lampard is desperate to add more quality to his attack after losing Richarlison, who joined Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer.
Depay could be an ideal replacement for the Brazilian forward at Goodison Park as he will bring more goals and creativity to Lampard’s attack. At 28, the Barca outcast is currently playing at the top of his game and has what it takes to be a success story at the Merseyside club if Lampard can find a way to win the race for his services this month. However, there are some concerns over whether Depay can maintain his good form in Premier League football where he previously struggled during his time at Manchester United.
