In a recent report Football.London has stated that West Ham United are closing in on Gianluca Scamacca and his arrival to East London could be seen in a few days. However, the Hammers have been told to sign Armando Broja instead of the Sassuolo striker ahead of his £30.5 million transfer in this off-season.
Broja And Scamacca’s Numbers Compared In The Last Season
Broja had a fruitful loan spell at Southampton in his last campaign after putting in some influential displays being the focal point of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s frontline. He scored nine goals and created one assist over 38 appearances for the Saints last season across all fronts, and on the contrary, Scamacca has enjoyed a solid campaign as he banged in 16 goals in total for the Italian outfit last season.
The English forward impressed on the attacking end of the field after averaging 1.4 shots and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League, whereas the Italian forward performed consistently based on his averages of 2.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Serie A. However, both of them need to find a way to improve on their ball distribution after completing 61.4% and 74% of their attempted passes in the top tier of English and Italian football, respectively (stats via whoscored).
Who Is The Right Fit For West Ham United?
The Italy international has been a solid presence in the striking position. At 1.96 m, his tall frame helps him dominate his opponents in aerial battles inside the penalty box. He excels at finishing in front of the goal. The Italian striker plays as a target man who can convert meaningful chances created for him by his teammates.
Broja can lead the line well and remains an adept finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. He has got the pace to get in behind the opposition and create space for himself. He can convert the chances created for him by his teammates with a little more confidence playing regularly. The 20-year-old can improve with each season and has the potential to become a deadly finisher if he works on his link-up play.
If we look at the stats, Scamacca has more goal tally than Broja and the Sassuolo star would bring more firepower to West Ham’s attack, so Moyes has been wise to close in on him since they require more quantity of goals to increase their attacking prowess. Despite Broja having more potential, Sacamacca remains a more viable option as he’s a seasoned attacker.
