According to a report from the Mirror, West Ham United are reportedly in talks with Chelsea over Armando Broja. The Hammers are understood to be in dire need of a striker and David Moyes has identified the Albanian forward to be a potential target but Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel remains reluctant over letting him exit Stamford Bridge.

Broja’s Impressive Loan Spell At Southampton Last Season

Broja had a fruitful loan spell at Southampton in his last campaign after putting in some influential displays being the focal point of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s frontline. He scored nine goals and created one assist over 38 appearances for the Saints last season across all fronts.

The England-born talent impressed on the attacking end of the field after averaging 1.4 shots and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he needs to find a way to improve on his ball distribution after only completing 61.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

Does West Ham United Need To Step Up Their Efforts?

David Moyes has reportedly urged West Ham chiefs to act quickly over Broja’s matter after Tuchel made an admission regarding the striker’s position at the club. Moyes wants to strengthen his squad as the East London club prepares for what could be consecutive seasons of European football after they managed to reach the play-off qualifying round in the Europa Conference League.

The Hammers’ priority is to bring a striker to increase competition for Michael Antonio as he remains the only centre-forward at London Stadium. Broja’s arrival would add more depth and balance to Moyes’ attack; hence the West Ham boss is adamant about getting his signature ahead of the next campaign.

They will need to step up their efforts while they have a significant advantage of offering him first-team football. The Albanian striker needs regular game time and that remains an obstacle for him at Stamford Bridge. West Ham could make use of Broja’s uncertain position in the Blues to lure him over to London Stadium but they need to do it fast.
