In a recent report, Portuguese news outlet Ojogo mentioned that Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe is close to joining Chelsea this summer. It has been claimed that the French outfit are currently finalizing the defender’s transfer to the West London club.
Kimpembe’s Solid Run Of Form At Parc des Princes
Kimpembe had a decent campaign at Paris recently as he was responsible for putting in a handful of dominant defensive displays at the centre of PSG’s backline. The France international scored two times and picked up one assist in 41 appearances for the Parisian giants last season across all fronts.
The 26-year-old deserves credit for being a dominant presence at the back after he averaged 1.1 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 2.4 clearances per game in Ligue 1. He even took care of the ball well when distributing possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 95.5% in league football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Kimpembe Bring To Chelsea?
Kimpembe can time his tackles well to make a few solid interceptions at the back. He is usually quick to react to the danger and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required.
The French talent is comfortable at playing his way out from inside his half and can pass the ball accurately as well. He mainly operates as a central defender but can even serve as a left-back if his manager needs him to do so.
Someone of Kimpembe’s skillset will be a welcome addition to Chelsea‘s backline this summer. We can expect him to bring a lot of bite and steel to Thomas Tuchel‘s defence.
Kimpembe could potentially go on to form an excellent defensive partnership with Chelsea’s new signing, Kalidou Koulibaly at Stamford Bridge next season. At 26, the French defensive ace is about to enter his prime, so the West London outfit can expect to get the best out of the player if they can devise a way to bring him to England in this off-season.
