It has been mentioned that the Magpies are weighing up a fresh move to acquire the services of the Colombian centre-forward as they look to strengthen their squad even further during this summer transfer window.
Zapata’s Decent Form In Italian Football Last Season
Zapata had a decent campaign at Atalanta as he put in a run of influential displays for them in the final third. However, he struggled to be consistent at times with his productivity in front of the opponent’s goal. The 31-year-old banged in 13 goals and secured seven assists in 32 matches for the Italian outfit last season in various competitions.
The South American sensation led the line well by averaging 3.4 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He was even tidy with his link-up play up top after completing 76.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).

What Will Zapata Bring To Newcastle United?
Zapata excels at creating space for himself to get a few shots in on target. He can be a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal when he is playing with confidence on the field.
The Colombian talent can create some inviting chances for others around him. He loves to use his quickness to get in behind the opponent’s backline but needs to find a way to be more consistent in the attacking end of the field.
At 31, Zapata is an experienced forward who could bring a lot of goals to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe‘s attack. He would certainly be an upgrade over Chris Wood who has struggled to catch the eye during his time at St. James’ Park so far.
Zapata has what it takes to help the Magpies push for a European place in the English top-flight and maybe even go on a long cup run next season.
