In a recent report, Marca mentioned that Real Madrid have set a €10m price tag for Borja Mayoral this summer. It is understood that Los Blancos are hoping to cash in on the Spanish centre-forward during this summer transfer period.
Mayoral’s Encouraging Loan Spell At Getafe
Mayoral had a decent six-month loan spell at Getafe last season when he put in a few productive displays for the Spanish outfit in the final third. The 25-year-old registered six goals and one assist in 18 appearances for the Spanish club in the previous campaign across various competitions.
However, the Spaniard failed to impress as he averaged 0.9 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in La Liga. He was even a bit careless with his link-up play in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 73.5% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Let Mayoral Go This Summer?
Mayoral can be a good finisher in the attacking end of the pitch when he is playing regularly in top-flight football. He can lead the line well but has often lacked consistency with his offensive contributions last season. Plus, the Real Madrid outcast has to work on improving his passing accuracy deep inside the opponent’s half.
At the moment, the Spanish striker is nowhere near good enough to compete with Karim Benzema for a regular starting spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. His current contract at Real Madrid is set to run out at the end of next season.
Therefore, it is only logical for Los Blancos to cash in on Mayoral this summer rather than risk losing him as a free agent next year. At 25, the Spaniard is about to enter the peak stage of his playing career, so he is in dire need to secure regular first-team starts in the coming seasons.
It is only fair to the player if the Madrid giants decide to let him go before the end of this transfer window as he is currently surplus to requirements at the Spanish club.
