According to a recent report by Express, it is being revealed that Frenkie De Jong could Exit Barcelona as he is now a top target for Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag will probably look to reunite with the former Ajax Midfielder.
The report also states that a swap deal could’ve been in place but Manchester United have now decided to go along tempting the Catalan club with a cash offer.
Frenkie De Jong’s Decent Run With Barcelona This Season
The 25-year-old midfielder is having a decent campaign at Camp Nou this season. He has scored 4 goals and created 5 assists over 45 appearances for the Catalan club this season across all fronts.
The former Ajax Talent has been a consistent performer for the Spanish giants this season based on his average of 0.4 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga football. He’s an adept playmaker completing 91.3 % of his passes in the La Liga making an average of 51.1 passes per game which is an impressive feat(stats via Whoscored).
Should Xavi Let De Jong Exit At The End Of This Season?
The Netherlands international has remained a regular in the first eleven for Barcelona both under Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernandez. The midfielder’s skillset is prolific and extraordinary, as many would go on to agree that the 25-year-old has that special something.
One could hardly put him under pressure as he remains quick at skipping past the opposition. Furthermore, De Jong has a wide vision which allows him to find open teammates in the final third easily, setting them up with a clear path towards the goal. He remains calm and maintains composure in the defence, timing his tackles well and regaining possession of the ball.
Xavi would be wise to keep him at Camp Nou, as the Dutch midfielder still has his best years ahead of him and could help Barcelona in the Spanish top flight. Even so, the Barcelona board remains under pressure of maintaining its financial position, hence the Catalan club should very likely sell the former Ajax talent to the Red Devils, deeming him as a surplus that needs to be offloaded as the summer transfer window commences.
