Everton locked horns with Liverpool at Anfield earlier this evening as they looked to grind out a good result in the Merseyside derby. The Toffees kept a solid shape in the first half and managed to get to the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
All of the visitors’ resistance was finally breached in the 62nd minute when Andrew Robertson scored with a good header from close range. Divock Origi came off the bench and ensured the win for Liverpool in the 85th minute when he found the back of the net from point-blank range. The contest ended with Everton suffering a hard-fought 2-0 loss at Merseyside.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the match against the Reds.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6/10
The English keeper made a couple of decent saves during the game but won’t be pleased after conceding two goals in the second half.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 6.5/10
He worked hard both on and off the ball but offered very little in the opponent’s half.
CB: Mason Holgate – 6/10
Holgate made a few important clearances but couldn’t stop the Liverpool attackers from wreaking havoc in the second 45 minutes.
CB: Michael Keane – 6.5/10
The English centre-back cleared the danger when required and earned the ball back a couple of times on the defensive third of the pitch.
LB: Vitaliy Mykolenko – 6.5/10
He performed his defensive duties well and made one key chance in the final third.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7/10
Doucoure was full of energy and running at the centre of the park but lacked the cutting edge in the Liverpool half.
CM: Allan – 6.5/10
The Brazilian talent anchored the midfield with conviction but didn’t do enough to keep a clean sheet.
CM: Alex Iwobi – 6/10
Iwobi worked hard off the ball and had a few bright moments in the attacking end of the field.
RW: Demarai Gray – 6/10
Gray went close to scoring with a great strike in the second half. However, he was quiet for most of the game.
ST: Richarlison – 6/10
The Brazilian attacker got booed for going to the ground too easily in the first half. He came back and produced an energetic display in the second but never looked like he would score.
LW: Anthony Gordon – 6.5/10
Gordon got booked for diving early in the game but came back and produced a lively display in the final third.
