Manchester City faced off against Liverpool at the Wembley Stadium earlier this evening as they hoped to pick up a win in the semifinals of the FA Cup. The Mancunian giants made a sloppy start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the ninth minute when Ibrahima Konate scored with a solid header. Sadio Mane doubled Liverpool’s advantage in the 17th minute when he capitalised on a poor mistake by Zach Steffen. The Senegalese speedster gave the Reds a 3-0 lead just before the half-time break when he scored with a great half-volley.
The Mancunian giants managed to get a goal back just two minutes into the second half when Jack Grealish scored with a good finish. Bernardo Silva managed to get a goal back in injury time but it was too little too late as Man City suffered a lackluster 3-2 loss at Wembley Stadium.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player performed during the match against Liverpool.
GK: Zach Steffen – 5/10
Steffen made a horror mistake which led to Sadio Mane’s opening goal.
RB: Joao Cancelo – 6.5/10
Cancelo performed his defensive duties well for most of the game and had some lively moments in the final third.
CB: John Stones – 6.5/10
The English defender looked shaky at the back and won’t be pleased after conceding three goals today.
CB: Nathan Ake – 6/10
Ake tried his best to contain Mane but failed to protect his goal in the first half. He was slightly better in the second.
LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – 7/10
He did his best to keep Salah quiet but failed to make an impact in the final third.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 7.5/10
Silva worked hard defensively and did well to register a goal late in the game.
CM: Fernandinho – 6/10
He gave away the ball cheaply at times and looked a bit slow at the centre of the park.
CM: Phil Foden – 6/10
Foden struggled to get into the flow of the game and produced a lackluster display in the final third.
RW: Gabriel Jesus – 7/10
Jesus did well to stay on his feet and set up Grealish’s goal. However, he wasted a couple of decent chances to score.
ST: Jack Grealish – 8/10
The ex-Aston Villa talent kept the ball moving well and kept his composure to score early in the second half.
LW: Raheem Sterling – 5.5/10
Sterling had a poor game in the attacking end of the field. Guardiola won’t be happy with his performance this evening.
Substitutes:
RW: Riyad Mahrez – N/A
He had a couple of lively moments but didn’t get enough time to warrant a rating.
