Former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that he tried to sign Alexis Sanchez but couldn’t do it due to FFP (Financial Fair Play) regulations.
Sanchez has been the centre of attraction in recent times as he is currently holding off a contract extension.
The Chilean, who was signed from Barcelona in 2014, has been demanding a wage in the range of £290,000-a-week but the Gunners are reluctant to give this much. He is currently earning a £180,000 a week and the North London club are willing to give a £50,000 hike.
Pellegrini, now the manager of Hebel China Fortune, claimed that he could have the winger at City, “He is one of the best in the world and he proves it every day,” Pellegrini, who left City in the summer, said of his fellow Chilean. “He was always an important player that we considered bringing to City.
“If we didn’t acquire him before he signed for Arsenal it was because the club was punished over financial fair play and we didn’t have the quota.
“Alexis is a complete winner and I hope he maintains his level as long as possible.”
The manager who also hails from the same country of Sanchez is reportedly trying to secure the player’s services by offering a huge wage believed to be around £400,000.
