In a recent interview with The Design Museum, Arsenal was urged by their former player Ray Parlour to land Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Parlour said,
“I’d also be interested in signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton because he would add a new dynamic to the forward players already at the club.
“I think he would hold the ball up well and interchange passes with runners from midfield.
“He’d be a huge benefit to the likes of Saka and Smith-Rowe. Ivan Toney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are realistic targets who would improve the club this summer and I’m excited to see what happens.”
Calvert-Lewin’s Injury Problems At Merseyside This Season
Calvert-Lewin has endured an injury-ravaged season at Goodison Park but has put in some productive displays as the focal point of Everton’s attack. The 25-year-old has banged in three goals and provided one assist in 11 matches for the Merseyside outfit during this campaign across all fronts.
The Sheffield-born talent has only managed to average 2.6 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he has been sloppy with his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 62.8% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Can Everton Boss Frank Lampard Afford To Lose Calvert-Lewin?
On his day, Calvert-Lewin can be a prolific goal-scorer in the final third as he has got the knack for finishing off chances in front of the opposition goal. The English forward can use his strength to hold possession up for his team in the attacking end of the field. He excels at generating space for himself to get a few shots in on-target.
However, Calvert-Lewin has to work on improving his link-up play if he wants to become a more accomplished centre-forward someday.
At 25, the English forward is about to enter his prime and remains one of the most important members of Frank Lampard‘s squad at the Merseyside club.
Thus, it makes no sense for the Toffees to cash in on him this summer. The 11-time England international is still under contract at Goodison Park until the summer of 2025. With all things considered, Lampard simply cannot afford to lose a player of Calvert-Lewin’s quality this summer.
