In a recent report, Inter Live mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to move in for Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij this summer. It has been stated that Spurs are planning to offer the Dutch centre-back a €6.5m per year contract to try and lure him to North London during the summer transfer window.
De Vrij’s Solid Campaign In Serie A Thus Far
The 30-year-old is having a decent season at San Siro as he has continued to give a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field. De Vrij has registered one goal in 29 matches for the Italian outfit during this campaign in all competitions.
The Dutch talent deserves a lot of credit for averaging 1.4 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 2.0 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back after making 92.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Is De Vrij A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur?
Standing at 1.89m, De Vrij is a strong presence inside his penalty box and can dominate the opposition in the air. He can get stuck in with some crunching tackles to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field.
The Dutch centre-back is also quick to spot the danger and usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. He is even a decent passer of the ball which makes him a good fit for Tottenham‘s brand of football.
De Vrij will add a lot of quality to Spurs‘ midfield and has what it take to secure a regular starting spot in Antonio Conte‘s first team. He could serve as an upgrade over Eric Dier who has struggled to be consistent with his performances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season.
De Vrij is an experienced defender who could help Spurs challenge for a top-four place in Premier League football over the next few years. Therefore, he will be a decent option for Conte to pursue in the summer.
