After receiving a 6-0 battering at the hands of Liverpool, Leeds United will host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, hoping to return to winning ways. The Whites are in a tumultuous situation at the moment, after claiming just one point in their last five matches and could get dragged further into the relegation scrap, in the event of another loss this weekend.
Predicted Leeds United Lineup vs Tottenham
Defence
If the head injury to Robin Koch wasn’t enough, Leeds United had to fare without Diego Llorente against Liverpool. Both their availability heading into this encounter remains a mystery for now, and they could potentially join Liam Cooper in Leeds United’s list of defensive absentees.
Marcelo Bielsa, though, could ring in a few changes nonetheless. Luke Ayling, in particular, could be shifted to his preferred right-back role after struggling against Liverpool. It could pave the way for Charlie Cresswell to occupy the central defensive role alongside Pascal Struijk.
Alternatively, Bielsa could deploy Jamie Shackleton at right-back, with Ayling retaining his place at centre-back, provided both Koch and Llorente remain out.
Elsewhere, Junior Firpo remains a guaranteed starter at left-back, with Illan Meslier is also likely to retain his place in between the sticks, despite conceding six against the Reds.
Midfield
In midfield, Bielsa is set to remain without the services of Kalvin Phillips. But given the impact of Stuart Dallas in the middle of the park, the Argentine could be forced to deploy the defender in midfield, as he looks to partner Adam Forshaw in the double-pivot.
It could see Mateusz Klich dropping to the bench, which won’t be a surprise as the Pole was subbed off at half-time even against Liverpool in midweek.
Attack
As for the attack, Bielsa might want to recall Tyler Roberts in the number ten role, ahead of Rodrigo Moreno. Raphinha, though, may retain his place in the side, though the Brazilian certainly needs to work on his productivity in the final third after a wasteful display against Liverpool.
Jack Harrison remains the favourite to start on the left flank, while the Leeds frontline is likely to be led by Daniel James, in the absence of Patrick Bamford. Joe Gelhardt is another option, should Bielsa look for a more traditional number nine in the final third.
