In a recent report, The Chronicle revealed that Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin is set to return versus Brentford this weekend. It is believed that the talented wide player could return from injury against the Bees after missing his team’s 1-1 draw versus West Ham United earlier this month due to a calf problem.
Saint-Maximin’s Difficult Campaign In English Football
The 24-year-old has experienced a tough season at St. James’ Park as he has struggled to be consistent with his performances for Newcastle in the final third. Saint-Maximin has been involved in 25 matches for the Magpies during this campaign, finding the back of the net on five occasions and securing three assists in the process across various competitions.
The French speedster deserves a lot of credit for averaging 2.0 shots, 1.6 key passes and 4.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, Saint-Maximin needs to improve his ball distribution after completing 75.2% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Saint-Maximin Set To Return Vs Brentford: Big Boost For Newcastle United?
Saint-Maximin can use his pace and agility to make some dangerous runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He can be a hard man to stop when he is dribbling at full speed in the final third. The French wing wizard can chip in by scoring and creating some important goals for his team up top. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play and end-product in the attacking end of the field if he wants to taste success at St. James’ Park.
At the moment, Saint-Maximin remains one of the first names in Newcastle boss Eddie Howe‘s teamsheet. Hence, having him back for the upcoming clash against Brentford will be a massive boost for the Magpies and their chances of collecting all three points away from home this weekend.
The Frenchman has got the quickness to run in behind the opponent’s backline and set up some clear-cut chances for Chris Wood up top. Hence, we can expect Howe to name Saint-Maximin in his starting XI if he can recover in time from his recent calf injury.
