In a recent report, Calciomercato has claimed that Manchester City are locked in a three-way battle for Bologna midfielder Mattias Svanberg. It is understood that the Mancunian giants will have to rival Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan in the race to land the Swedish talent.

Svanberg is having a solid campaign in Italian football after producing a run of consistent performances at the heart of Bologna’s midfield. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net on three occasions and grabbed two assists in 20 matches for the Italian side this season across all fronts.

The Swedish sensation has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he needs to distribute the ball a bit better from midfield, based on his pass completion rate of 75.8% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Svanberg has got decent pace under his belt and can make some clever runs with the ball from midfield. He can set up some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third and can also chip in by scoring the odd goal.

The Swedish talent doesn’t shy away from performing his defensive duties as he is a solid tackler, who has got a good work ethic and can earn possession back for his team. He also doesn’t take too many risks when clearing his lines at the back.

At 23, Svanberg has still got a lot of room to grow as a midfielder. Therefore, we can expect Pep Guardiola to get the best out of him if Man City can devise a way to get him on board this year.
