Chelsea entertained Chesterfield at Stamford Bridge earlier this evening as they hoped to pick up a positive result at home and progress into the next round of the FA Cup. The Blues took the lead in the sixth minute courtesy of Timo Werner’s tap-in from close range. Callum Hudson-Odoi doubled the home team’s advantage in the 18th minute with a great strike before Romelu Lukaku made it 3-0 to Chelsea just two minutes later. The West London outfit were not done yet as they scored again in the 39th minute via Andreas Christensen’s header which meant that Thomas Tuchel’s men went into the half-time break 4-0 up on the scoreline.

Hakim Ziyech got his name on the scoresheet from the penalty spot in the 55th minute. However, Chesterfield netted a consolation goal courtesy of Akwasi Asante’s tap-in from close range as the FA Cup contest finished 5-1 in favour of the Blues.

Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player performed during the match against Chesterfield.

GK: Marcus Betinelli – 6/10

The Blues goalie made a couple of solid saves but will be disappointed after conceding a late goal which ruined his chances of a clean sheet.

CB: Malang Sarr – 6.5/10

He dealt with Kabongo Tshimanga’s threat quite well for most of the game but was at fault in the lead-up to Chesterfield’s goal.

CB: Andreas Christensen – 7/10

The talented centre-half scored with a good header in the 39th minute and was solid at the back as well.

CB: Lewis Hall – 8/10

The 17-year-old didn’t let the occasion get to him and produced a matured display inside his half. He created Romelu Lukaku’s goal and was composed on the ball.

RW: Hakim Ziyech – 7.5/10

He was a constant menace in the final third and has got a goal from the penalty spot to show for his efforts this evening.

CM: Saul Niguez – 6/10

Saul was walking a defensive tightrope after getting booked early on in the game and produced a lackluster display in the second half.

CM: Mateo Kovacic – 7/10

He built up plays well from midfield and helped set up Chelsea’s first goal. Kovacic was taken off at half-time.

LM: Callum Hudson-Odoi – 7/10

Hudson-Odoi scored a great goal in the first half to make it 2-0 to Chelsea.

RAM: Christian Pulisic – 6.5/10

He earned the penalty which Ziyech converted early in the second half.

LAM: Timo Werner – 7/10

The German striker was there in the right place at the right time to tap the ball in from close range which gave Chelsea the all-important lead.

ST: Romelu Lukaku – 7/10

The Belgian international caused all sorts of problems for the Chesterfield defenders. He scored one goal but should have had a few more with all the chances he got this evening.

Substitutes:

ST: Kai Havertz – 6/10

He worked hard after coming off the bench.

CM: Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 6/10

Loftus-Cheek added more energy to Chelsea’s midfield.

CM: Lewis Baker – 6/10

He made some solid tackles.

RM: Harvey Vale – 6/10

Vale offered very little after coming on in the 59th minute.

CM: Ross Barkley – 7/10

Barkley made some decent runs with and without the ball.
