Swansea City temporarily came out of the relegation zone after what was a fantastic day for them. Though it might to too early to call it a 6-pointer, a win here was crucial for Bob Bradley and the Swans. After a resounding 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Spurs, it seemed all doom and gloom for them. But a 3-0 win over an in-form, albeit struggling as a whole, Sunderland has certainly brought Bob some invaluable time. A second half brace by Fernando Llorente after a penalty by Sigurdsson ensured a 3-0 win and 3 handsome points for the American and his troops.
Let us take a brief look at the talking points from the match.
GYLFI SIGURDSSON AND FERNANDO LLORENTE KEY FOR THE SWANS
Swansea have lacked any sort of inspiration or leadership at the back this season and truth be told the situation has been the same throughout the pitch. Their new signings have been anonymous for most parts. But the last couple of weeks has seen improvement at least in the latter department as Llorente seems to have found his scoring boots in the Premier League and giving him support has been the ever reliable Sigurdsson.
The Icelandic international has already scored 4 goals and assisted another 4. And after a horrible start to the season, even Llorente has scored 3 in pretty quick time. Swans need these two to maintain and better their form if they are to build on their win against the Black Cats.
GETTING REAL TIGHT AT THE BOTTOM
While a couple of weeks back, Sunderland, Swansea City and Hull City were looking like the doomed candidates to be going down. But we can see the volatile nature at the bottom of the heap now. With dynamics changing with every game, it will be extremely difficult to predict anything regarding the outcome of the season, at any end.
To put things into perspective, just 10 point separates the 20th and the 6th placed teams. A couple of wins here and there on the bounce has the ability to turn things around for any team.
SUNDERLAND NEED JANUARY REINFORCEMENTS
After a nightmare start to the season for the Black Cats, they strung together 3 wins from 4 matches and it looked as if they could carry that on in a similar manner to Stoke and climb higher up. But today’s result has brought them thudding to the ground and it is evident that summer recruits are needed on an urgent basis. With Watmore out, their problems have multiplied and a couple of additions can alone spark a real turnaround.
