In a recent interview with BT Sport (via The Daily Mirror), ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand urged Liverpool to move in for Borussia Dortmund goal machine Erling Haaland. Ferdinand said,
“I think he suits other teams better [than Man City].
“If I was Liverpool I would take him right now.
“If he goes to Liverpool that’s a devastating front three. I don’t think it’s as hard for him to adapt if he goes to Liverpool. It’s a different system.
“You see Jack Grealish has gone to Man City, [he is a] top player, brilliant player, we all love watching him, but it’s quite hard to adapt and get into that team.
“Not many players go there and adapt immediately.”
Erling Haaland’s Excellent Numbers For Dortmund Despite Recent Injury Concerns
Haaland has experienced a campaign of mixed emotions as he has banged in the goals at a high rate for Dortmund but has missed a lot of games due to injury. The Norway international has registered 13 goals and four assists in ten matches for the German side this season across all fronts.
The Leeds-born frontman has been a consistent performer for Marco Rose’s side in the final third based on his average of 5.0 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. However, the 21-year-old needs to improve his accuracy when distributing the ball deep inside the opposition half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 72.4% in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Launch A Move For Erling Haaland?
Haaland has transformed himself into an unforgiving finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. He can even strike the ball with power and precision from long range. The 15-time Norway international can orchestrate some decent openings for others around him and can utilise his pace and power to make a few well-timed runs in behind the opposition backline. Standing at 1.94m, Haaland can easily dominate his marker in the air and can even find the back of the net with a few good headers in the final third.
With Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita set to go on international duty for the Africa Cup of Nations this January, the Reds can definitely benefit from recruiting a world-class striker like Haaland this January.
Thus, Jurgen Klopp would be wise to launch a move to acquire the services of the Bundesliga superstar when the transfer window commences at the start of next year as he will bring plenty of goals and physicality to Liverpool‘s attack.
