Everton Tipped To Send This Gifted Youngster Out On Loan: Good Move For Both Parties?

In a recent interview with Football Insider, former England defender Danny Mills tipped Everton to send Ellis Simms out on loan this January after the youngster penned a new contract with the Merseyside club earlier this month. Mills said,

“Yes, of course.

“At 20-years-old, he’ll be 21 in January, he needs to keep playing first-team football now.

“Everton don’t quite think he’s ready for their first-team yet but he’s gaining vital experience in training.

“It’s not to say he won’t be good enough for the first team and that is clearly the plan as they have given him a three-year deal.

“He just needs to keep learning and keep improving, that’s all he can do. He played well last season on loan and, as a player, that’s all you can do.

“Eventually you get your chance and you should be ready for your chance. If you take it you then move up the ladder.”

Simms’ Impressive Loan Spell At Bloomfield Road Last Season

Simms had a fruitful loan spell with Blackpool last season when he managed to put in a run of eye-catching performances for them in League One. The talented forward deserves a lot of credit for scoring ten goals and grabbing two assists in 24 matches for the Tangerines in the previous campaign across various competitions.

The 20-year-old caught the eye by averaging 2.3 shots and 0.8 key passes per game in the 2020-21 League One season. However, he was a bit sloppy with his ball distribution as he completed just 63% of his attempted passes in the third tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

Simms is yet to make a senior appearance for the Toffees but has proven himself to be a prolific goal-getter for their youth sides. The promising centre-forward is not shy of having a strike at goal and can be a composed presence inside the opponent’s penalty box. He can even set up some decent chances for his teammates to score.

The Oldham-born prospect has registered 17 goals in 37 appearances for Everton‘s Under-23 side. Still, he is yet to break into Rafael Benitez‘s first team, so it is only logical for the youngster to seal another loan move this winter if he wants to come back to Merseyside as a better version of himself next summer.

Another productive loan spell would do Simms’ first-team chances a world of good as he could potentially be ready to serve as a decent back-up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Goodison Park in the coming seasons.
