According to RAI Sport’s Domenica Sportiva programme (via Sport Witness), Newcastle United are ready to offer a lucrative contract to Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne. It has been revealed that the Magpies are planning ‘to shower him with gold’ to lure the Italy international to St. James’ Park when his contract at Naples runs out at the end of this campaign.
Insigne’s Solid Season In Italian Football So Far
The 30-year-old has made a decent start to this campaign after giving a good account of himself as an influential member of Napoli’s attack. Insigne has scored five goals and grabbed four assists in 14 matches for the Italian outfit this season across various competitions.
The 52-time Italy international has continued to perform at a high level by averaging 1.0 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 3.6 shots, 2.5 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been tidy when linking up play with his teammates in the final third as he has made 82.4% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Is Insigne A Dream Option For Newcastle United?
Insigne is a quick and agile winger who can complete some dangerous dribbles with the ball in the attacking end of the field. He can even engineer a few meaningful openings for his teammates from the wide areas. The Napoli star mainly operates as a wide player on the left flank but can also function as a secondary striker down the middle if needed.
Hence, Insigne will be a terrific acquisition for the Magpies as he will enhance the quality of Eddie Howe’s first XI considerably for the coming seasons. At 30, the Italian would believe that he still has a lot to offer at the highest level.
We can expect Insigne to form an excellent attacking partnership with Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin at the Tyneside club. More importantly, he could help Howe’s team challenge for a major trophy or two over the next few years. With all things considered, Insigne will be a dream option for Newcastle United to pursue next summer. Plus, the fact that he will be available as a free agent makes it a necessity for the Magpies to land him at the end of this season.
