Sunderland announced that they will not be signing Yann M’Vila from Rubin Kazan in January after the player’s agent made it clear that his client no longer wishes to join the English club. The Black Cats were quick to pull out of the transfer as the club’s Chief executive and manager felt it was best not to bring in someone who isn’t fully committed. As a result of which the 3 and a half year contract which was in place previously for M’Vila was vetoed.
David Moyes will now have to look for other players as by rejecting the French midfielder, they have left themselves in a tight situation and need to assess targets quickly considering the window isn’t far away. Let’s look at some options which Moyes can pursue in January to bolster the defensive midfield of Sunderland.
Tom Cleverley
The Everton man is reportedly being offered to other clubs ahead of the transfer window and the former Manchester United man can be a handy option at the Stadium of Light. The midfielder has great Premier League experience having played for Wigan, Man United, Aston Villa and Everton and was also one of the key members of the 2012/13 title winning side of the Red Devils. Cleverly is a decent option for Sunderland, one who can contribute to the cause.
Marouane Fellaini
The big Belgian is a player who is reportedly available in the winter for £20m and for Sunderland, he will be an excellent option. The midfielder had previously performed very well under David Moyes during their time at the Goodison with his overall contribution to the team’s play earning him much praise from the experts.
When Moyes was appointed the manager of Manchester United, Fellaini became the Scotsman’s first major signing at Old Trafford. With the Belgian entering the final 12 months of his contract at United, the chances of Moyes fixing a deal for the tall midfielder for the third time could be a real possibility.
Chris Cadden
An exciting young prospect, 20-year old Chris Cadden has been a player earning praises for his displays in the SPL. The Motherwell midfielder will be a nice addition to the midfield of the Black Cats who are desperately short in numbers in that area after injuries to Watmore and Gooch.
Having scored 3 goals from his 20 appearances this season, the Motherwell academy graduate has got decent first team experience and can do the job in the Premier League.
