Steven Gerrard made a few changes to his Rangers lineup ahead of hosting bottom-placed Ross County at Ibrox. An array of key figures were underwhelming in a disappointing 2-2 midweek draw against Brondby and the gaffer reacted immediately by dropping them this afternoon. Although they conceded again in early minutes, the game eventually ended 4-2 in favour of the reigning Champions.
Below are the Rangers players rated in their win against Ross County.
Allan McGregor: 5.5
Could have done little to stop Joseph Hungbo’s early opener. Conceded again in the closing minutes which he should have stopped.
James Tavernier: 8
Made the impact once again, this time from a set-piece situation. His pinpoint cross from the corner was headed home by Aribo to make it 1-1, whereas another dangerous delivery into the box led to an own goal from Alex Iacovitti around the hour mark.
Connor Goldson: 6
Nothing spectacular from the Englishman as he could have reacted sharper during the Staggies goal. Did not face much trouble from the visitors due to Rangers’ dominant display in terms of possession.
Leon Balogun: 6.5
Received booking for a mistimed tackle, but the Nigerian was spot on with his timely blocks, recoveries and interceptions. Won the majority of duels exhibiting his physical as well as aerial supremacy. Made way for Nathan Patterson midway through the second half.
Calvin Bassey: 6.5
Whipped in a few crosses from the left and balanced his game between attack and defence. Not as productive as Tavernier was from the opposite flank.
John Lundstram: 7
Lethargic at times while recovering possession, but the ex-Sheffield United star eventually settled in after a shaky start. His passing, distribution and tackles helped the Gers retain the ball and form attacking threats from the middle of the park. Was replaced by Ryan Jack midway through the second half.
Juninho Bacuna: 8.5
Registered an assist for Kent’s stunner, also found the net himself with a powerful hit from the edge of the box. Has mostly been used as a substitute so far, but the Curacao international has finally grabbed the opportunity with his all-round ability from behind the frontline.
Joe Aribo: 9
Impressive from the Nigerian as he not only headed home to score the equalizer but also played a clever one-two with Bacuna before the latter found the net with a stellar strike. The free role in the midfield indeed suits his game.
Ianis Hagi: 7
Showed his skills from the wing, also altered his position high up the pitch to add mobility and variation. Could have done better with his end product.
Ryan Kent: 8.5
Excellent once again as his stunning strike made it 2-1 in favour of the home side. Looked unplayable at times with his pace, power and prowess in the attacking third.
Fashion Sakala: 7
Worked hard to make his presence known high up the pitch. Created a few chances and his tireless runs were causing problems in the Staggies defence.
Rangers Subs Vs Ross County
Kemar Roofe: 7
Was denied spectacularly by Ashley Maynard-Brewer in Ross County goal.
Nathan Patterson: 6
Did not offer much since replacing Leon Balogun.
Ryan Jack: 6
Returned from a lengthy spell on the sideline. A good few minutes of football for the Scotsman.
