Celtic scripted a thrilling midweek win against Ferencvárosi in the Europa League and were favourites to clinch another thumping victory this afternoon as they travelled to Dens Park to lock horns with Dundee FC. Although it looked somewhat competitive at the break, the Jota-Furuhashi pair tore the hosts apart in a commanding 4-2 triumph on the road.
Below are the Celtic players rated in their win against Dundee FC.
Joe Hart: 5.5
Could have done little to stop Daniel Mullen’s header midway through the second half. Must take the blame though for Lee Ashcroft’s goal against the run of play.
Anthony Ralston: 8.5
Continues to impress with his marauding runs from the right-hand flank. Kept on causing menace in Dundee defence as he set up two goals with his pinpoint crosses. Also played his part in Jota’s opener.
Cameron Carter-Vickers: 6.5
Forced Adam Legzdins to make a point-blank save just over the half-hour mark. Lost a few duels at the back and struggled to deal with crosses as well as long balls inside the box.
Stephen Welsh: 6.5
Started back to back games due to the injury absence of Carl Starfelt. Had a couple of headers wide from set-pieces, however, maintained his composure in deep defence with timely clearances and interceptions. Having said that, the youngster needs to work on his positioning and concentration.
Josip Juranovic: 7
Balanced his game between attack and defence. Could have offered more in terms of attacking involvement. Maintained a decent passing accuracy, also linked up well with Jota down the left-hand flank.
Nir Bitton: 7.5
Returned in time for the game despite sustaining a knock in the midweek. Much better display from the Israel international though as he operated from the ‘hole’ in between the backline and ‘midfield four’. Looked combative in the deep and completed a number of successful dribbles to initiate attacking transitions.
Callum McGregor: 7.5
Worked tirelessly to dominate the midfield game. Regained possession and carried the ball forward on many occasions. Showcased his vision and distribution attributes to stretch the opponents.
David Turnbull: 8
Offered his creative spark from the middle of the park. Kept on creating chances one after another with his crosses, through balls and set-pieces.
Liel Abada: 7
Looked sharp with his swift footwork, cut insides and link-up play from the right-hand flank. Could have been more direct in the attacking third. Made way for Georgios Giakoumakis around the hour mark.
Filipe Jota: 9.5
Continues his incredible form as he not only netted a brace but also assisted Furuhashi to make it 4-1 minutes after the break. Posed a constant threat down the wide with his tricky moves and scoring traits. Was taken off to be replaced by Mikey Johnston with 10 minutes remaining.
Kyogo Furuhashi: 9
Incredible display from the Japanese ace who hit a hat-trick in the reverse fixture. Bagged a couple of goals this time around showcasing his great poaching instinct while spearheading the attack. Made way for James Forrest around the hour mark.
Celtic Subs Vs Dundee
Georgios Giakoumakis: 6
Had a couple of attempts off target since replacing Abada high up the pitch.
James Forrest: 7
A good half an hour of football for the veteran Scotsman as he looked sharp with his movements.
Mikey Johnston: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
