It’s been a must-win contest for both Celtic and Ferencvárosi to keep their knockout hopes alive in the Europa League. The Hoops have been in great form of late and they showcased their sheer dominance once again with a comprehensive 2-0 win against the Hungarian opponents.
Below are the Celtic players rated in their win against Ferencvárosi.
Joe Hart: 7.5
Made a couple of greats saves to deny Myrto Uzuni and Eldar Civic. Did well with his ball distribution. A well-deserved cleansheet for the veteran Englishman.
Anthony Ralston: 7.5
Was lively down the right-hand flank with frequent overlapping runs, crosses and cut insides. Performed his defensive duties while protecting the narrow lead prior to Turnbull’s late goal.
Cameron Carter-Vickers: 8
Looked confident with the ball at his feet, played it out from the back, also won the duels and made key interceptions. A composed defensive display from the USMNT international.
Carl Starfelt: 7.5
Much better from the Swedish centre-half alongside Carter-Vickers in the heart of the backline. Looked combative, made no-nonsense clearances and recoveries to keep the lead intact.
Adam Montgomery: 7.5
Recovered from a knock to feature as a makeshift left fullback. Was effective down the wide as he linked up well with Jota high up the pitch. Tried to utilize his pace and exhibit creative spark with cutbacks and swift footwork. Earned a spot-kick around the hour mark and eventually made way for Liam Scales late in the match.
Callum McGregor: 8
Although his spot-kick was saved by Denes Dibusz in the Ferencvárosi goal, the skipper dominated the midfield game with plenty of touches and passes from a central role. Worked hard to carry the ball forward from the deep and kept on testing the keeper between the sticks.
David Turnbull: 8
Continues his exquisite scoring form as he doubled the lead from a close range with around 10 minutes remaining. Kept on causing problems in the visitors’ half with his one-twos and late runs inside the box.
Tom Rogic: 7
Operated as a ‘number 10’ from behind Furuhashi. Was not accurate enough with his dribbling attempts, but his vision and through balls often created chances. Made way for Nir Bitton midway through the second half.
Liel Abada: 6
Lost the majority of duels. Did not make much of an impact except for a few tricky runs and crosses. Was replaced by Giorgos Giakoumakis around the 71st-minute mark.
Filipe Jota: 8.5
Stunning from the left with his lively movements. Set it up beautifully for Furuhashi around the hour mark, also played his part in Turnbull’s goal that ensured a commanding 2-0 triumph.
Kyogo Furuhashi: 8
Made no mistake to slot home after picking up Jota’s pass. Worked hard to play his part in the build-ups, covered a lot of ground and received plaudits from the fans while making way for Mikey Johnston in the closing minutes.
Celtic Subs Vs Ferencvárosi
Nir Bitton: 6.5
Was brought in to calm things down and defend the lead during the second half.
Giorgos Giakoumakis: 6
Still attuning to Scottish surroundings after a difficult start to life due to injury woes.
Liam Scales: 6.5
Was deployed in his preferred left-back slot during the final quarter.
Mikey Johnson: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
