In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Chelsea striker Timo Werner is gathering interest from other top European clubs. It is understood that Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are all preparing offers to land the German forward who could reassess his future with the Blues if he doesn’t get regular game time this season.
Werner’s Up And Down Spell At The English Capital
Werner was a bit inconsistent at times with his performances for the West London outfit last season but still managed to impress as an important feature of Thomas Tuchel’s attack. The 25-year-old made 52 appearances for the Blues in the previous campaign, netting 12 goals and grabbing 15 assists on all fronts.
The Stuttgart-born talent was a prominent member of Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI and did well to average 2.3 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the English top-flight last season. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 78.8% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Werner is currently under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2025, so it would take a big offer from any of his potential suitors if they want to secure the services of the German international next summer.
Should The Blues Cut The German Striker Loose Next Summer?
Werner has decent pace under his belt that helps him make a few well-timed runs in behind the opponent’s backline. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also function as a wide player on either flank if needed.
The 45-time German international can be a reliable goal-getter in the attacking third of the pitch when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. He is a good passer of the ball and can create some inviting chances for others around him.
Werner needs to ensure regular playing minutes if he wants to take his game to another level. Hence, if Tuchel cannot afford to play him regularly, maybe it will be best for both the player and the club to part ways with each other in an amicable fashion at the end of this campaign.
At 25, Werner is currently entering his prime and could still be a key asset for the Blues if they are willing to put a bit more faith in him. With all things considered, Tuchel would be wise to not cut him loose next summer and instead give him more chances to earn a permanent spot in his starting XI this season.
