According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as cited by GIFN, Tottenham are interested in Marcelo Brozovic. The Inter Milan midfielder is facing an uncertain future at the club with his current contract expiring in the summer. The player has already demanded a €6 million per season salary, which is proving to be a stumbling block for the Italian giants, thus putting Spurs on red alert.
Marcelo Brozovic’s Success At Inter Milan
Formerly of Dinamo Zagreb, Marcelo Brozovic arrived at Inter Milan in January 2015 on a loan deal. He instantly became a crucial member of the club’s midfield unit during his 18-month loan spell, prompting the Italian giants to make his move permanent in 2016, for a bargain fee of just €5 million.
Since then, Brozovic has gone on to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A. A defensive midfielder by trade, the Croat has impressed the onlookers with his ability to orchestrate the game as well as offering cover for the backline. He also has the pedigree of performing at the highest level of football.
An Inter Milan player for almost six years now, Brozovic has made 250 competitive appearances for the Nerazzurri, scoring 25 goals while supplying 33 more, which is an excellent return for a holding midfielder. Moreover, the 28-year-old has won 66 caps for his country, notably playing a key role in their World Cup run in 2018.
Not to mention, the Croatian international’s contributions in the middle of the park were vital in helping Inter Milan break Juventus’ dominance in Italian football last season as they secured the Scudetto title. But with his contract expiring at the end of the season, it appears the player has the option to start a new adventure somewhere else.
A Good Option For Tottenham?
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the main suitors for Brozovic if he does indeed opt to leave Inter next summer. The Premier League giants are on the hunt for a new midfielder who can offer more support to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
It is apparent that neither Harry Winks nor Oliver Skipp are cut out for the job whereas Tanguy Ndombele is far too inconsistent. As such, Nuno Espirito Santo could definitely use someone like Brozovic in his team.
The 28-year-old offers a wealth of experience at the highest level of football whilst boasting the technical prowess and composure to offer the ideal support for Hojbjerg in the middle of the park. He can bring the winning mentality as well, which is essential if Spurs are to advance to a new era after years of struggle in finding any silverware.
Perhaps most importantly, Brozovic could be available for a free transfer as well, making him an ideal coup for the Lilywhites next summer.
