According to renowned Bundesliga journalist Christian Falk, Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz. But they are not alone in the race as Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have also registered their interest. Having said that, Bayern Munich are leading the chase over a potential swoop in 2023.

The highly-rated teenager progressed through the youth ranks of FC Koln before being roped in by Die Werkself last year during the winter window. Although he was initially lined up for the U17s, an impressive run earned him his senior debut within months at the age of 17. Soon he secured first-team status, rather succeeded Kai Havertz in the attacking third following Havertz’s Chelsea move.
Predominantly a midfield attacker, Wirtz has also exhibited his excellence down the flanks. He scored and laid on 8 times each last season in 38 outings across competitions, and his impressive display has continued so far this term, grabbing the attention of an array of European hotshots. 5 goals and 4 assists in 6 appearances depict his mastery as a ‘number 10’ and Liverpool, who have successfully balanced the books all summer, must aim for something spectacular in the coming days to stay relevant in the title race.
Why Liverpool Should Bring In Wirtz
Jurgen Klopp has done wonders for the Anfield club since succeeding Brendan Rodgers in the autumn of 2015. He conquered all the major honours with a restricted budget and, therefore, deserves to be backed by the owners at a period when all the rivals are splashing the cash to restore supremacy. Moreover, the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have not been at their best of late and the gaffer should start freshening up the squad with long-term replacements.
Liverpool never had an outright midfield attacker since Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona. Meanwhile, they adopted immediately in a different set-up but, at the same time, felt the lack of creative spark from the middle of the park in close encounters. Wirtz has impressed enough to grab his senior Germany debut at the age of 18 and the German side would look to maximize the profit on their prized asset, who is contracted until the summer of 2026. It is to be seen now whether the Reds step up the hunt and challenge the fellow suitors in due time.
