Manchester United locked horns with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium earlier this evening as they looked to secure a positive result on the road. The Red Devils struggled to get any real control in the game over the course of the first 45 minutes and went into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
Man United kept the ball well in the second half and finally managed to make the decisive breakthrough courtesy of Mason Greenwood’s goal in the 80th minute. The contest finished with the Mancunian giants coming away with an impressive 1-0 victory from the West Midlands.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the match against Wolves.
GK: David de Gea – 8/10
The Spanish keeper made several solid saves to deny the Wolves attackers a goal. He will be quite satisfied with the clean sheet today.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7.5/10
Wan-Bissaka hardly put a foot wrong in the game when defending inside his half. However, his impact was minimal in the attacking end of the pitch.
CB: Raphael Varane – 7/10
Varane cleared the danger when required and picked out Mason Greenwood with a great pass in the lead-up to the goal.
CB: Harry Maguire – 7/10
The English centre-back was strong in the air and made a few crucial clearances on the defensive end of the field.
LB: Luke Shaw – 7/10
Shaw had a couple of lively moments in the Wolves half and pulled off a few important interceptions at the back.
CM: Paul Pogba – 7/10
The French sensation protected his backline when needed and was a decent threat in the final third.
CM: Fred – 6.5/10
The Brazilian midfield ace disrupted the opposition’s flow in the game at the centre of the park but offered very little in the Wolves half.
RM: Daniel James – 6/10
James was relatively quiet in the first half and got replaced in the 52nd minute.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 6.5/10
The Portugal international had some bright moments but there was no goal or assist for him today.
LM: Jadon Sancho – 5.5/10
Sancho struggled to contribute in any meaningful way in the final third. He was replaced in the 71st minute.
ST: Mason Greenwood – 8/10
Greenwood was a little fortunate to score as Jose Sa failed to save his shot. However, there is no denying that he caused a lot of problems for the Wolves centre-halves and just about deserves the man of the match award.
Substitutes:
ST: Edinson Cavani – 6/10
The Uruguay international never got a chance to find the back of the net.
LM: Anthony Martial – 6/10
He kept the ball quite well for Man United in the latter stages of the game.
RM: Diogo Dalot – N/A
Dalot didn’t get enough minutes to warrant a rating.
