In a recent report, The Daily Mail has claimed that Chelsea are eyeing a summer move for Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku. However, it is believed that the Blues are trying to drive Inter’s £100m price-tag down and hope that they can bring the Belgian international back to Stamford Bridge in this off-season (via The Daily Mail).
Lukaku’s Impressive Goal-Scoring Numbers In Italian Football
Lukaku has enjoyed another majestic season in Italian football as he has put in several match-winning displays as the focal point of the Milan club’s attack. The Antwerpen-born sensation has found the back of the net on 30 occasions and secured ten assists in 44 appearances for the Italian giants this term across all competitions.
The 28-year-old has been one of the top performers at San Siro and deserves a lot of credit for averaging 2.7 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the recently concluded Serie A campaign. However, he needs to improve his accuracy when interchanging possession with others around him after making 72.6% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
At 28, Lukaku is currently entering the peak of his football career, so he would be a shrewd addition to Thomas Tuchel’s dressing room if Chelsea can find a way to get a deal done for him during this summer transfer window.
What Will The Belgian Striker Add To Thomas Tuchel’s Side?
Lukaku is a dominant presence inside the opponent’s penalty box as he can use his strong 1.91m frame to outmuscle the opposition and win some important aerial duels for his side. The Belgian powerhouse is a decent finisher in the attacking end of the field and has scored plenty of important goals for Inter that has helped them secure the Serie A title under the expert stewardship of their former manager Antonio Conte, who recently left the Italian club on mutual consent.
An accomplished striker like Lukaku will be a massive coup for Chelsea as the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham have all struggled to be consistent as Tuchel’s centre-forward position.
The Serie A star knows the West London club well from his previous spell at Stamford Bridge. However, Lukaku struggled to prove his worth as a top goal-scorer back then, so he might be tempted with the opportunity to join the current UEFA Champions League winners this summer.
Tuchel is in dire need to add more quality to his attacking department as all of his first-choice forwards have been far from prolific this season. All in all, Lukaku will add a lot of firepower to Chelsea’s frontline and has what it takes to nail down a first-team place at West London in the coming seasons.
