In a recent report, The Sun has mentioned that West Ham United are among several clubs hoping to land Blackburn Rovers forward Adam Armstrong this summer. It is understood that the Hammers are leading the race to sign the English marksman along with Fulham but both London clubs can expect to face competition in the form of Brighton and Hove Albion, Newcastle United and Everton in pursuit of him in this off-season (via The Sun).
Armstrong’s Excellent Form In English Football This Season
The 24-year-old is having one of the best years of his playing career at Ewood Park as he has produced a run of consistent displays as an important member of Tony Mowbray’s attack. Armstrong has been involved in 43 matches for the Lancashire outfit this term, finding the back of the net on 29 occasions and securing five assists in multiple competitions.
The West Denton-born talent has been enjoying a rich vein of form in the final third based on his average of 4.7 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship this season. However, he needs to be more careful when distributing possession in the attacking end of the field after completing 75.7% of his attempted passes in the English second division (stats via whoscored).
Armstrong has played at a very high level over the past ten months, so it is no surprise that so many English top-flight clubs including West Ham are hoping to get him on board during this summer transfer window.
Will Armstrong Be A Good Fit For David Moyes?
Armstrong is one of the quickest players in English football and can use his pace and agility to get the better of his marker in and around the opposition penalty box. He has a good work rate and loves to run the channels and stretch the opponent’s defence with his clever movement both on and off the ball.
The English forward has transformed himself into a natural finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can even contribute by picking up his fair share of assists. However, he is yet to prove his worth at the highest level and it is still unclear whether he can make a smooth transition to Premier League football if West Ham can manage to bring him to the London Stadium this summer.
Armstrong is versatile enough to play anywhere across the frontline and would add plenty of pace and goals to David Moyes’ first team. Hence, we can expect the Blackburn star to be a decent fit for the East London outfit ahead of the new season as he has what it takes to rival Michail Antonio for a spot in the West Ham starting XI in the coming seasons. All in all, Armstrong will be a great option for Moyes to consider this summer because of his versatility and goal-scoring prowess in the final third.
