West Ham United clashed heads with Burnley at Turf Moor earlier tonight hoping to pick up maximum points on the road. The Hammers conceded a penalty in the 19th minute which Chris Wood converted to give the Clarets the lead. However, the East London outfit came roaring back courtesy of two quick-fire goals from Michail Antonio and went into the half-time break 2-1 up on the scoreline.
Both sides fought tooth and nail in the second 45 minutes but canceled each other out as the contest ended 2-1 in favour of David Moyes’ men which kept them firmly in the hunt to secure UEFA Champions League football for next season.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player performed during the clash against the Clarets.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 6/10
The Polish keeper couldn’t save Wood’s penalty but did make two good saves to restrict the opposition to just one goal during the 90 minutes.
RB: Vladimír Coufal – 7/10
The Czech full-back was solid at the back and made two promising chances in the opposition half. He set up Antonio’s equaliser with a good cross.
CB: Craig Dawson – 8/10
Dawson made plenty of important clearances for his side and did enough in the end to get over the line with all three points in the bag. He was also strong in the air.
CB: Issa Diop – 8/10
Just like his centre-back partner, the French defender was a rock inside his half as he was always willing to clear the danger when called into action. He also won plenty of headers to keep the Burnley attackers frustrated throughout the game.
LB: Aaron Cresswell – 7.5/10
Cresswell pulled off a couple of important clearances and made several goal-scoring chances for his teammates in the final third.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 8/10
The talented midfielder protected the West Ham backline quite well by sensing the danger quickly and earning possession back a few times for his side. He was also not shy of having a shot at goal.
CM: Manuel Lanzini – 7/10
The Argentine playmaker had to do his fair share of defending and also had some lively moments in the attacking third.
RM: Pablo Fornals – 7/10
The Spaniard created some meaningful chances for others around him but was not clinical enough to get himself a goal.
CAM: Jesse Lingard – 6.5/10
Lingard squandered a great chance to get his name on the scoresheet late in the game. Otherwise, he struggled to cause too many problems for the Burnley defenders.
LM: Said Benrahma – 7.5/10
He set up Antonio’s second goal with a great cross and was also responsible for engineering quite a few inviting chances for his teammates.
ST: Michail Antonio – 9/10
Antonio scored two poacher’s goals within ten minutes after Wood’s opener. All of his good work in the first half were enough to make the difference tonight.
Substitutes:
LM: Jarrod Bowen – 6/10
He added some energy to the Hammers attack.
