In a recent report, The Daily Star has mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are facing stiff competition for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero who is set to become a free agent at the end of this campaign. It is understood that Spurs will have to compete with Everton, Chelsea, Leeds United, Barcelona and Inter Milan in the race to secure the services of the Argentine marksman in the summer (via The Daily Star).

Aguero’s Frustrations In The Premier League This Season

Aguero is having a troubled season at the Etihad Stadium as he has missed a lot of games due to multiple injuries. The 32-year-old has only managed to score four goals in 16 appearances for the Mancunian outfit this term in various competitions.

The Quilmes-born frontman has found it difficult to perform at his best which explains why he is averaging 1.3 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League this season. However, he has been careful when interchanging possession in the final third based on his pass success rate of 78.5% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

Aguero will be available on a free transfer, which means that he will be a low-risk option for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to consider during the summer transfer window. At 32, he could still play an influential role at the highest level if he can stay away from injuries in the coming seasons.

Is The Experienced Argentina International Worth The Fight?

Aguero still has decent pace in his locker and can complete some encouraging dribbles in the final third when he is playing regularly on the pitch. He managed to get his name on the scoresheet versus Crystal Palace last weekend, which proves that he can still bang in some important goals for his team.

The 97-time Argentina international has a wealth of experience of playing at the top level and has won plenty of major trophies during his long and decorated career. A striker of his experience and natural instincts is well-worth fighting for as he can still bring plenty of goals to any top-flight side that are willing to offer him regular game time next season.

Therefore, Tottenham should think about capitalizing on his availability as a free agent by offering him a short-term contract this summer. Aguero has what it takes to help Spurs challenge for top honors once again over the next couple of years. He could potentially form a lethal striking partnership with Harry Kane if Tottenham can convince him to stay beyond this summer.
