Leicester City played hosts to Liverpool at the King Power Stadium earlier this afternoon hoping to pick up a positive result at home. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but struggled to break each other down as they went into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
The East Midlands outfit’s defence was finally breached in the 67th minute when Mohamed Salah found the back of the net after an excellent lay-off from Roberto Firmino. However, James Maddison equalised for the Foxes when he scored from a free-kick in the 78th minute. Jamie Vardy capitalised on another defensive mistake from Liverpool to put Leicester ahead just three minutes later before Harvey Barnes put the icing on the cake when he got his name on the scoresheet with a tidy finish. The match finished 3-1 with Brendan Rodgers’ men earning an impressive comeback win at home.
Let’s take a look at how each Leicester player fared during the game against the Reds.
GK: Kasper Schmeichel – 6/10
Schmeichel made a few solid saves during the game and did enough to restrict the opposition to just one goal. However, there was no clean sheet for him today.
RB: Daniel Amartey – 6.5/10
He had to do a lot of defending and stood up to the test of stopping Sadio Mane’s runs out on the wide areas.
CB: Jonny Evans – 7/10
Evans picked up an injury before the half-time break but deserves praise for carrying on and leading his team to a comeback win in the second half.
CB: Caglar Soyuncu – 6.5/10
Soyuncu dealt with mostly everything that came his way and did enough to keep the Liverpool attackers frustrated throughout the game.
LB: Ricardo Pereira – 7.5/10
Pereira was superb in the way he kept track of Mohamed Salah’s movement and made several important defensive contributions for his team.
CM: Oliver Ndidi – 8/10
Ndidi got stuck in with some important tackles and earned possession back for his side on quite a few occasions. He also ended the game with an assist to his name.
CM: Youri Tielemans – 7/10
Tielemans had to do a lot of defensive work which meant that he couldn’t influence the game too much in the attacking third. He produced another solid display today.
RM: Marc Albrighton – 6/10
He worked hard but failed to make an impact in the final third.
CAM: James Maddison – 7.5/10
Maddison scored the equaliser which gave his teammates the belief to go on and snatch the three points.
LM: Harvey Barnes – 8/10
Barnes scored a good breakaway goal to kill the game off. He was a real threat for the Reds on the counter.
ST: Jamie Vardy – 7.5/10
Vardy missed quite a few decent chances during the game but still managed to get his name on the scoresheet in the 81st minute after capitalising on a defensive mistake from Alisson Becker.
Substitutes:
ST: Ayoze Perez – 5/10
Perez hardly had a kick in the game and went off injured.
CM: Hamza Choudhury – N/A
Not enough time for him to influence the game.
CM: Nampalys Mendy – N/A
He came on to replace the injured Perez.
