In a recent report, The Daily Mirror has mentioned that Aston Villa are eyeing a move for Reading midfielder Michael Olise. It is understood that the Villans boss Dean Smith is eager to bolster his youth ranks by adding the French playmaker in the hopes of developing him into a future star in the Premier League (via The Daily Mirror).
Olise’s Outstanding Form At Berkshire This Season
The 19-year-old has caught the eye after producing a run of incredible performances at the Madejski Stadium this season. He has been involved in 24 matches for the Royals this term, netting four goals and securing eight assists in all competitions.
Olise has performed well to average 1.1 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 1.3 shots, 1.7 key passes, 1.1 crosses and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even distributed the ball immaculately in the opposition half as he has completed 81.6% of his attempted passes in the English second division (stats via whoscored).
The former Chelsea youngster is a player on the rise and could prove to be a shrewd addition to Dean Smith’s squad if the Villans can find a way to get a deal done for him during this January transfer window or at the end of this season.
What Will The French Midfield Ace Bring To The Table?
Olise has got decent pace in his locker and is proficient at making some driving runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty box. He is quick and agile enough to be a potent threat on the counter but needs to hit the gym to gain more upper-body strength if he wants to succeed in the Premier League someday.
The Royals whizkid has shown that he can score and create goals consistently in the Championship, but he is yet to prove his worth at the highest level. If Olise decides to join the Villans, he could get a chance to earn regular game time at Villa Park in the coming seasons. But for now, the player might be better off staying at Reading as he is one of the first names in Veljko Paunović’s teamsheet these days.

Olise is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also feature as a winger on either flank if required. At 19, he is only going to get better with each season, so Smith should consider engineering a move to bring him to the West Midlands in the future.
