West Ham United will lock horns with Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday evening looking to earn a positive result on their travels. The Hammers had to settle for a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend, so this upcoming league game could be an ideal chance for them to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
David Moyes could revert to a 4-2-3-1 formation and might make a few tweaks to his side for this clash away from home. Both Manuel Lanzini and Said Benrahma are expected to start as the West Ham boss looks to freshen up his attack.
4-2-3-1 West Ham United Predicted Lineup To Face Southampton
Defence
Łukasz Fabiański will keep his place in goal for the East London giants after shipping in two goals against the Seagulls last weekend. Angelo Ogbonna and Fabian Balbuena will operate in central defence as they try to restrict the Saints from scoring during the 90 minutes.
Vladimír Coufal will be a guaranteed starter at right-back while Aaron Cresswell hopes to impress on the other side as the left-back. Both of them will have to work hard in defence if they are to stop the home team from causing too many problems out on the wide areas.
Issa Diop and Ryan Fredericks will offer cover for the defensive positions on the Hammers bench.
Midfield
Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek will feature in the holding midfield positions as they look to disrupt Southampton’s flow of the game at the centre of the park. The technically-gifted trio of Said Benrahma, Manuel Lanzini and Jarrod Bowen will function just ahead of them as part of Moyes’ attack.
Soucek got himself a goal last weekend, so he will pose a threat once again with his late runs into the opponent’s penalty box. Mark Noble has not given a good account of himself recently, so he might drop to the bench in midweek.
Attack
Sebastien Haller will lead the charge for the London outfit up top. The French attacker failed to register a goal in his last league outing. Hence, he will be eager to get his name on the scoresheet on Tuesday evening.
This game will come too soon for Antonio, who is still recovering from his injury. However, Andriy Yamorlenko will make up the numbers on the bench but could come on to make an impact in the latter stages if needed.
