Wolverhampton Wanderers will play hosts to Chelsea at the Molineux Stadium on Tuesday evening hoping to bounce back from their bitter 1-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa recently. The West Midlands outfit need to respond positively by putting in a much-improved performance against the Blues. However, it will be easier said than done as Frank Lampard’s men are also looking to return to winning ways following their 1-0 loss away at Everton.
Nuno Espirito Santo is expected to opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation and will be forced to name Ruben Neves in his starting XI as Joao Moutinho is suspended for this clash after he picked up a red card in his last outing.
4-2-3-1 Wolves Predicted Lineup To Face Chelsea
Defence
Rui Patricio will operate in goal for the Midlands giants after conceding five goals in his past two starts in the Premier League. Conor Coady will look to have a good game alongside Willy Boly at the heart of the Wolves backline. However, both of them will have their hands full while trying to cope with Olivier Giroud’s physicality and goal-threat in midweek.
Nelson Semedo will be a nailed-on starter at right-back while Marcal fills in on the other side as the left-back. Nuno Espirito Santo will ask both of them to maintain a solid defensive shape and not let Chelsea create too many chances out from the wide areas.
Max Kilman and Romain Saïss will be available for selection on the bench as they await their chance to make an impact in the second half if needed.
Midfield
Ruben Neves will partner Leander Dendoncker in the holding midfield positions as they try to keep things tidy at the centre of the park. As mentioned earlier, Moutinho will be absent in this game due to suspension, so most of the creative burden will rest on the shoulders of Neves.
The pacey trio of Pedro Neto, Daniel Podence and Adama Traore will operate just ahead of them as part of the Wolves attack. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have not scored a single goal in their past two league matches, so they could struggle to breakdown the Chelsea defence when the match gets underway on Tuesday evening.
Attack
Fabio Silva will spearhead the Wolves attack up top. The promising youngster will be instructed to work his socks off in running the channels so that he can cause a few problems for the Blues defenders in midweek.
