Real Madrid have dropped points for the second time this season and have suffered a rather unlikely defeat at the hands of newly-promoted side Cadiz. Los Blancos conceded early in the first half with a chip shot by Cadiz’ Anthony Lozano.
Zidane’s men displayed a lack-lustre performance in the first half with barely any chances created by Sergio Ramos and company. The captain even picked a yellow card for his troubles after being caught out of position in the build-up to Cadiz’s opening goal of the night.
The French gaffer made a quadruple change at half time, but things did not really improve much. The Whites were unable to turn it around and lost by the sole goal scored by Lozano.
Real Madrid Players Rated In Defeat Against Cadiz
GK : Thibaut Courtois – 7/10
The goalie was kept busy throughout the night and made a handful of decent saves apart from the goal he conceded.
RB : Nacho – 7/10
Nacho had a busy evening as he took on his younger brother down the right-hand side. The absence of Carvajal was certainly felt in attack as Nacho’s crosses failed to even get past the first man on numerous occasions.
CB : Raphael Varane – 7/10
Amongst the top performers for Madrid on a rather pale night. Varane acted as a constant barrier guarding Madrid’s goal.
CB : Sergio Ramos – 6/10
An uncharismatic performance from Sergio Ramos who was caught napping in defence on a couple of occasions. An error from Ramos allowed the visitors to open the scoring on the night. It is understood that Ramos took a knock in the first half and was subsequently taken off as a precautionary measure.
LB : Marcelo – 7/10
Marcelo seems to be on the decline with the defender not being able to really keep up with the pace of the game. A lot more was expected of him on the night and he did not seem to live up to those expectations.
CM : Luka Modric – 6/10
An extremely unlikely performance from the Croatian wizard, Modric did not seem to be game ready. His night was cut short by Zidane who brought on Federico Valverde to replace him.
CM : Toni Kroos – 8/10
One of the brightest performers for the reigning champions at the Alfredo de Stefano stadium. Kroos kept the game ticking from Madrid’s point of view.
CM : Isco – 6/10
Isco failed to command a grip in midfield and did not cause any trouble for the Cadiz defence during his 45-minute stay on the pitch.
RW : Lucas Vasquez – 6/10
The Spaniard failed to impress in an opportunity presented by Zidane. Lucas did not have any sort of impact on the game.
ST : Karim Benzema – 7/10
The lanky striker came the closest to scoring for Madrid with his shot rattling the crossbar in the dying moments of the second half. Benzema was isolated by the Cadiz defence and that made his night difficult.
LW : Vinicius Jr – 6/10
Despite being one of the most industrious players on the night, Vinicius’ finishing put him down. The Brazilian teenager failed to convert a header directed towards him by Toni Kroos and the chance went begging.
Substitutions
CB : Eder Militao – 7/10
A solid performance from Militao ahead of a likely El Clasico appearance should Ramos be injured until next weekend.
CM : Casemiro – 7/10
Casemiro came on at the half time mark but the damage was already done in the first half.
CM : Federico Valverde – 7/10
An energetic and lively performance, but did not really make any difference to the outcome of the game.
RW : Marco Asensio – 7/10
A lot more was expected of Asensio as he was brought on at the half time break. The winger did not seem to get his crosses right.
Luka Jovic – 6/10
Almost had a fairytale start to his evening with a neat finish from a Benzema cross, only for the referee to rule it offside.
