Aston Villa will clash heads with Liverpool at Villa Park hoping to pull off an unlikely upset on Sunday evening. The Villans have won both their Premier League matches thus far which will give them some confidence heading into this league encounter versus the reigning champions of England.
Dean Smith will probably opt for a 4-3-3 formation and is expected to revert to his strongest XI after resting a lot of his first-team stars in midweek.
4-3-3 Aston Villa Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
Emiliano Martínez will return to the starting lineup to take his place in goal for the Villans while Jed Steer plays as his back-up on the bench. Ezri Konsa will once again partner Tyrone Mings at the heart of Smith’s defence as they try to frustrate the Liverpool attackers for long periods of the game.
Matty Cash will be a nailed-on starter at right-back while Matt Targett fills in on the other side as the left-back. Both of them will look to keep things solid at the back so that they can limit the opposition’s chances of scoring this weekend.
Midfield
The West Midlands outfit would have a midfield comprised of Conor Hourihane, Douglas Luiz and John McGinn as they focus on disrupting the opposition’s rhythm and flow of the game at the centre of the park. All three midfielders will even have to figure out a way to create a few decent openings when releasing the front players on the counter.
Hourihane got his name on the scoresheet in his last outing, so he could be a real handful for the Reds if given time and pace to make runs from midfield. Henri Lansbury might have to settle for a spot on the bench as he waits for his chance to shine as an impact substitute if needed.
Attack
Jack Grealish, Ollie Watkins and Trezeguet will make up the home side’s attack. Grealish managed to find the back of the net versus Fulham last weekend which will keep him in high spirits going into this clash against the Reds on Sunday.
Keinan Davis will be available for selection on the bench and might come on to provide some energy in attack if the Villans are chasing the game in the second half.
