Leeds United clinched a well-deserved win in the Yorkshire derby as Patrick Bamford’s late goal helped them secure a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United. The Whites have now secured two wins in three matches while their local rivals slump to their third consecutive defeat, with Chris Wilder’s men struggling to replicate last season’s form.
Leeds United Player Ratings Vs Sheffield United
Illan Meslier 10/10
Made an extraordinary save to deny John Lundstram from scoring and it was followed by yet another crucial save during the latter stages of the first half. He made a few more saves in the second half, saving Leeds United’s blushes. Outstanding performance in goal.
Luke Ayling 7.5/10
Stayed back to help Leeds United implement a three-man backline. However, some of his forward passes were ideal, although the Englishman may have done a little better defensively.
Robin Koch 7/10
Robin Koch found it difficult to maintain proper positioning in the first half. But, the German did improve as the game progressed.
Liam Cooper 7.5/10
Liam Cooper should have done a lot better in keeping check of George Baldock. Aside from that, though, the Leeds captain was solid enough, making some crucial clearances and a second-half block.
Stuart Dallas 8.5/10
Stuart Dallas was the liveliest players this afternoon, going up and down the pitch, providing the offensive support. He also had a few attempts on goal while making life difficult for Sheffield United defenders with his runs in central areas of the pitch.
Kalvin Phillips 7/10
A decent game for Kalvin Phillips, who once again played a key role in orchestrating the midfield and transitioning the ball from defence to attack. Did make one or two rash fouls but was important in transition.
Helder Costa 7/10
Helder Costa was a likely outlet on the flanks, using his swift turns to deceive opposing defenders. Also had a couple of excellent attempts on goal but it was simply not his afternoon.
Mateusz Klich 7/10
Mateusz Klich wasn’t as impressive and influential as he was in the first two matches. But, it was still a hard-working display from the Pole in midfield.
Tyler Roberts 6/10
Started on a positive note but failed to make a telling impact on the proceedings. Made way for new signing Rodrigo at the start of the second half.
Jack Harrison 8/10
Jack Harrison was always a key outlet from Leeds United in the wider attacking positions. His cross-oriented approach paid off for Leeds as he provided the cross that led to Bamford’s opener.
Patrick Bamford 8/10
Silenced his critics once again with a well-taken late winner, in what turned out to be his third goal in three Premier League matches this season.
SUBSTITUTES
Rodrigo 7.5/10
Came on in the second half to provide a key outlet in the number nine role. Was lively with his touches and always looked like a menace for the Sheffield defenders.
Ian Poveda 7/10
Provided a real spark in the Leeds United attack after coming on for Helder Costa just after the hour-mark. He was selfish, at times, though.
Ezgjan Alioski N/A
A late replacement for substitute Rodrigo.
