According to a recent report by The Daily Star, Barcelona are eyeing a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Tanguy Ndombele as well as Ryan Sessegnon. The same source has also mentioned that the former could be available this summer, but Jose Mourinho has no intention of parting ways with the latter.
Ndombele’s Frustrating Spell In The Premier League
The French playmaker has experienced an inconsistent debut season at North London after struggling to produce productive performances regularly at the heart of the Tottenham midfield. He has participated in 29 matches for Spurs this term, netting two goals and grabbing four assists across multiple competitions, which sheds light on his inconsistencies as far as productivity is concerned going forward.
Ndombele deserves some credit for being an all-round performer in the Tottenham midfield as evidenced by his average of 1.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.5 shots, 0.7 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League this season. He has also been quite tidy with his ball-distribution after completing 85.6% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
The Longjumeau-born midfield ace has also earned six senior caps for the French national team, but is still waiting to score his first goal for his homeland. Maybe a change of scenery this summer could allow him to make a fresh start away from the English capital so that he can fulfil his potential for both club and country in the coming seasons.
What Will The French International Add To Quique Setien’s Team?
Ndombele can use his quickness and agility to make some driving runs with the ball from midfield and is not afraid to shoot from long range as he can strike the ball with a lot of power. The Frenchman also has the vision to pick out a killer pass in the final third which makes him a constant menace for the opposition. Plus, the talented midfielder is not shy of working hard and can also make some crucial interceptions for his side at the back.
A gifted footballer like Ndombele could prove to be a welcome addition to the Catalans squad in the long-run. He will not only strengthen Quique Setien’s midfield department, but also increase competition for places within his squad. Hence, Barca should consider going all out in pursuit of his signature this summer as he has the potential to help them win the Champions League once again in the years to come.
Ndombele will offer some much-needed competition for the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal, Frenkie de Jong and Riqui Puig at Catalonia next season. He could also serve as an ideal long-term replacement for the ageing Sergio Busquets, who is heading into the twilight years of his playing career. Thus, it makes sense for the Catalans giants to orchestrate a move to bring the Frenchman to the Nou Camp ahead of the new season.
