Arsenal have made a contact with Italian side AS Roma for the signing of Leandro Paredes as per a report published by Tuttomercatoweb. According to the report, the Gunners are looking to make a move for the player next summer.
Paredes is one of the hottest prospects of the Serie A and currently has a contract with the Rome club till 2019. The interest in the player gives us some indication of how the squad will be shaping up for the next season.
This summer, Arsene Wenger has spent a considerable amount of money addressing the problems which were left unresolved for a long time. The arrival of Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi were the signings which were absolutely necessary.
Xhaka was brought in to provide the bite in the midfield defensively as the Swiss international is known for his toughness on the pitch. Being strong in the tackle as well as the ability to thread the pinpoint passes which splits the defence from time to time, Xhaka is a player fully suited for the gameplay of Arsenal under Arsene Wenger.
Leandro Paredes is an Argentine midfielder who can play both as an attacking midfielder as well as the defensive midfielder. After graduating from the Boca Juniors youth academy, the player had two loan spells with Italian clubs Chievo and AS Roma before joining the Giallorossi in 2015 permanently.
Last season, he was sent to Empoli on loan where he made 33 appearances and caught the eye with his displays. With Miralem Pjanic being sold to Juventus, the Argentine is getting some opportunities to play his part for Roma this season having played 10 times in the Serie A and 6 times in all in the European competitions.
Paredes is a brilliant passer of the ball with some serious set piece skills in his arsenal. During his time at Italy, he has really worked hard on his defensive game and improved in the tackling department and his defensive positioning.
With Santi Cazorla nearing 32, the move for Paredes gives us a serious indication about the future of the Spaniard in the team as well as for the likes of Jack Wilshere, who is currently on loan at Bournemouth.
Also, it gives us an indication of how Wenger wants to flood the team with talents who can play multiple positions or have the attributes to bring in the balance to the squad by having the ability to contribute both in the attack as well as the defence.
If the move happens then Arsenal will have a very talented midfielder in their ranks who will provide the team further options to be effective on the pitch when faced to respond to different challenges.
