With 10 points from their 11 games, Hull City are in the relegation zone of the Premier League and are looking worryingly like a team destined to get the drop at the end of the season. Mike Phelan has been in a bad situation with so many injuries from the start with his squad being seriously reduced to almost 14 or 15 players to choose from. After an encouraging start which saw the Tigers win the first two games, six consecutive losses derailed their season which has seen the team fall into the relegation zone.

Phelan now is desperate to make full use of the January transfer window which might be the only chance for his team get some things right if they are to have any chance of staying up this season. Several reports have now indicated that the Hull manager is looking to submit a bid for Lazio midfielder Ravel Morrison.

Morrison who graduated from the Manchester United youth academy has worked with the current Hull City boss as he was the assistant manager of United during that time. Despite being identified as one of the top prospects, Morrison became notorious for his bad attitude. The midfielder left United and joined West Ham United in 2012 dropping down a level to play in the Championship where the Hammers were at the time.

During his time with the Hammers, Morrison spent time at Birmingham City, QPR and Cardiff City on loan. In 2015, the 23-year old joined Italian club Lazio on a free transfer signing a four-year contract. That move also has not been fruitful with the midfielder making just 8 appearances so far.

The lack of effort that he puts on the pitch has been criticised by his Lazio manager as well. Mike Phelan is fully aware of the problem and he has been quoted by the Sun saying, ‘We are looking at players who can come in and strengthen the squad in January. Ravel is a talented boy. He’s had his ups and downs but I know what he’s got to offer. He has bags of ability that just needs harnessing in the right way.’

If managed the right way, the Lazio man is capable of producing moments of real quality on the pitch just as he did at White Hart Lane in October 2013 as West Ham won 3-0 on the day. With their resources being stretched to the limit and the team suffering from the lack of creativity in the midfield, Ravel Morrison can be the player who can make a difference for the Tigers as they prepare themselves for the battle to survive the drop at the end of the season.
