Spurs have a situation on their hands right now with their skipper Hugo Lloris being told by Daniel Levy that he will have to remain at Tottenham Hotspur’s tight wage structure if he wants to sign another long-term contract with the club. Well, the Frenchman is among the best keepers in the world right now if he demands a bigger pay that is pretty much understandable.
Spurs have a policy that they won’t pay any of their stars over £100,000-a-week which most clubs in the world be happy to pay for the services someone like Lloris’ abilities. Spurs being too stubborn about this could very well lead to a sour relationship between them and the player and Lloris could be on the move. Spurs need to ensure that they are ready with alternatives for the Frenchman.
Here are three keepers they could go for in order to replace Lloris if the Frenchman indeed leaves White Hart Lane.
Timo Horn
If you want quality keepers, Germany is a country which would never disappoint you. The World champions have produced some of the greatest keepers in the history of football. Liverpool most recently went to Germany to solve their keeping problems and did not come back empty handed. Spurs could very well do the same.
Timo Horn has impressed a lot for Koln in the recent years with his displays under the bar. Still only 23, he still has his best days ahead of him and could be a big success at Spurs. He has been impressive this season as well and has helped his side to sixth in the league table.
Mattia Perin
You have to feel bad for keepers like Perin who struggle to get their chances in national setup just because legendary Gigi Buffon still looks 38 years young when he starts under the bar for the Azzurri. The Genoa keeper is rated among the most promising keepers in the world and Spurs won’t regret giving him a step up in his career.
Perin, in many ways, is the perfect successor to Buffon with his calm and composed approach between the sticks and his ability to communicate and sort his defence.
Bernd Leno
Leno is a keeper who burst onto the scene quite some time back and it is a bit surprising to see him still at Bayer Leverkusen. The German is a player of the highest calibre and still just 24. He has all his future ahead of him and Spurs could go for him if they have to let Lloris go.
Leno has already played 239 games for a top Bundesliga side like Bayer Leverkusen till date at the tender age of 24 which speaks volumes about his quality and he would be the perfect successor to Lloris.
