Tottenham Hotspur will entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hoping to close the gap to Chelsea in the top four race with a win on Sunday afternoon. The North London team will come into this contest on the back of two consecutive losses versus Red Bull Leipzig and Chelsea respectively.
Hence, it would be up to Jose Mourinho to mastermind a plan good enough to secure all three points against the West Midlands side. The Portuguese boss could opt for a 3-4-3 formation and might a few changes to his first-team for this weekend.
3-4-3 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup Vs Wolves
Defence
Hugo Lloris will operate in goal for the North London outfit despite shipping in two goals against Chelsea last weekend. Mourinho could be inclined to go with a back three of Davinson Sánchez, Toby Alderweireld and Japhet Tanganga for this clash versus Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.
All three Spurs defenders need to put in a much-improved defensive shift when Wolves come to town this weekend. A clean sheet in this game could do wonders for their confidence as Mourinho tries to instigate a late push for a top-four spot in the coming weeks.
Midfield
Both Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso will get the nod to anchor the midfield as they focus on providing adequate protection for the Tottenham back three. Ben Davies will assume the duties of the left wing-back while Serge Aurier looks to cause a few problems for the opposition defenders down the right flank. Both Davies and Aurier will have to find a way to win the 50-50 duels out on the wide areas if they want to pin the Wolves wide players inside their own half.
Ryan Sessegnon is a major concern for this encounter. However, Tanguy Ndombele, Eric Dier and Dele Alli should be available for selection on the bench.
Attack
Mourinho will opt for a front three of Érik Lamela, Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn for this home game against the West Midlands outfit. There is no denying that the North London giants have struggled without Harry Kane and Heung-min Son in the past couple of matches. Hence, it would be up to Moura to carry most of the goal-scoring workload up top while Lamela and Bergwijn look to create some clear-cut chances for him from the flanks.
Gedson Fernandes will have to settle for a spot on Mourinho’s bench but might come on to influence the game if required.
