According to the reports from Daily Mail, Liverpool are going to turn their attention towards Napoli’s midfielder Fabian Ruiz after their effort to sign Real Madrid’s Isco was thwarted. It is believed that Liverpool had put in a £47m bid for Isco which was rejected by the Spanish giants. However, it is thought that Liverpool will have to shell out more than £47m for Ruiz as well.
The reports state that Liverpool have been encouraged by recent unrest at Napoli between the club’s players and chairman Aurelio de Laurentiis. Quite a few star players had refused to attend a training session arranged by the chairman, and the players were fined for it. Hence, there is a good chance that quite a few star players could move away in January.
It will be surprising to us if Liverpool gets talent like Ruiz in this window. However, he is likely going to cost a bomb as club’s chairman once said in jest that a €180m offer would make him think about selling Ruiz.
The 23-year-old has been thriving for Napoli, and he moved to the Serie A club from Real Betis. Ruiz has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season and the central midfielder has one goal and two assists to his name so far. He is also a Spanish international.
What can the midfielder bring at Anfield?
Ruiz is known for his impressive close-quarter control and dribbling skills. The Spaniard is always aware of what’s around him, and he can keep the ball under immense pressure from the opposition. Moreover, he also has that killer pass in his locker to unlock defences. Liverpool often have to deal with teams who sit back deep and defend in numbers, and a player like Ruiz can create that magic moment in the final third.
The Spaniard is also a versatile midfielder as he can do various jobs in the middle. We already see how the likes of Wijnaldum and Henderson are versatile, and they can take on multiple roles in midfield. Ruiz is also the same as he can play in a box to box role or as a defensive midfielder or wide in midfield.
The likes of Henderson, Lallana, Wijnaldum and Milner are in their thirties or edging towards their thirties, and Liverpool will need new faces in midfield soon. 23-year-old Ruiz will be a top addition as he has a lot of potential to control the tempo of the game and Klopp should look to get this deal over the line.
