Paul Pogba’s injury piles more misery on Jose Mourinho as United lost to Fenerbahce 2-1 in the Europa League. Pogba limped off the field after a tackle from Brazilian midfielder Souza in the 29th minute. Pogba tried his best to carry on but unable to continue and had to be subbed off. Zlatan Ibrahimović replaced him.
Pogba’s injury means he joins the likes of Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Antonio Valencia in the injury list. Ander Herrera will be unavailable as he is suspended and it could be the return of Bastian Schweinsteiger in the starting lineup.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan played his first match after a long gap as he replaced Marcus Rashford in the second half. The only good news from yesterday’s match was Wayne Rooney’s coming back to form. The United Captain scored a scorcher from 25 yards to reduce the deficit but couldn’t stop his team from an embarrassing loss.
Jose had earlier hinted about a possible return for Bastian Schweinsteiger at the pre-match press conference, “At the moment, we have no problems in midfield like we have in defence but, if we have problems in midfield, it’s another option for us.”
