According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Leicester City are prepared to double James Maddison’s wages to fend off interest from other clubs and keep him at the King Power Stadium. The same source has also revealed that the Foxes are ready to offer the English playmaker £100,000 per week to keep him happy at the East Midlands amid recent interest from Manchester United.
Maddison’s Majestic Form In The Premier League This Season
The ex-Norwich City star has made a breath-taking start to this campaign after putting in a run of eye-catching performances for Brendan Rodgers’ side so far. The Coventry-born rising star has made 14 appearances for Leicester this term, scoring six goals while providing two assists on all fronts.
Maddison is averaging 3.0 shots, 2.3 key passes and 2.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League this season (stats via whoscored). Even though his current deal at the King Power runs out in the summer of 2023, Rodgers will be keen on giving him a significant pay hike following his match-winning contributions for the Foxes during this campaign.
The former Aberdeen talent has also secured one international cap for England but is yet to score his first goal for the Three Lions. Maddison has also kept Leicester in the title race after he helped his side secure a vital win against Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend which consolidated their position in the league table. The Foxes are currently sitting pretty in second place, eight points behind the league leaders, Liverpool.
What Are The English Midfielder’s Best Attributes?
Maddison is the primary playmaker in Rodgers’ starting XI and has orchestrated some decent goal-scoring opportunities for his team this season. The England international’s excellent contributions have made Leicester a heavy favourite to secure a top 4 place at the end of this campaign.
Maddison has decent pace and outstanding ball-control which enables him to complete some lung-bursting dribbles from midfield. He excels at creating chances for others in the opposition half but is also not shy of having a pop at goal from long distance when a chance presents itself. The 23-year-old has already proven that he can score and create goals consistently at the highest level.
Leicester To Offer Maddison A New Deal: A No-Brainer For Rodgers?
The Foxes would be wise to tie Maddison up to a new contract as it is quite likely that he will gather interest from other top European teams in January or at the end of this campaign. The English playmaker deserves to get a significant pay raise for his excellent displays for the East Midlands club this season. Hence, it should be a no-brainer for Rodgers to offer him a new deal as he cannot afford to let the player leave when Leicester are still in with a great chance of competing with Liverpool and Manchester City for the league title.
