According to a recent report by the Sun, Manchester United are eyeing a move to secure the services of Aleksandr Sobolev from KS Samara when the transfer window reopens in January. The same source has claimed that the Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has put the Russian striker’s name in his shortlist of targets for the winter transfer period.
Sobolev’s Incredible Rise In Russian Football
It is believed that Man United scouts have been monitoring Sobolev’s progress in the Russian Premier Liga (via the Sun). The 22-year-old has spent his entire career playing in his homeland for clubs such as Dinamo Barnaul II and Tom Tomsk before he joined KS Samara in the winter transfer window of 2018.
Sobolev has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the Russian top-flight this season after he put in some memorable displays at the Cosmos Arena. He has netted eight goals and created three assists in 12 appearances for KS Samara this term across all competitions.
The Barnaul-born prospect has also represented Russia at the Under-21 level but is yet to earn a senior international cap for his country.
What Will The Russian Striker Bring To The Theatre Of Dreams?
Sobolev has managed to improve his game over the past year and has transformed himself into a prolific goal-scorer in the top tier of Russia. He is a fox inside the opposition box and can find the back of the net consistently at the top level. However, his all-round game still has a lot of room for improvement.
The departure of Romelu Lukaku earlier this summer has left a big hole in the Red Devils squad. Hence, Solskjaer could look to sign Sobolov as he could prove to be an ideal replacement for the Belgian striker. Sobolev is young, hungry and knows how to be a prolific goalscorer at the club level.
The Russian frontman will not only add more goals to the Man United frontline but will also improve the overall depth of Solskjaer’s squad. Therefore, Solskjaer would be wise to move in for him in January so that he has a strong squad capable of challenging for trophies in the coming years.
