In the pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s showdown against RB Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League (via the Liverpool Echo), Jurgen Klopp provided an update on Allison’s return and said,
“There are two opinions. One is Ali’s and the other one is the medical department.
“We should wait. We have to see. He’s training well but it was a serious injury. We won’t take the risk with him.
“We’ll have to see for Leicester but Manchester United is 100 percent.”
Alisson’s Dream Spell At Merseyside
The fact that the Brazilian keeper might be ready to face Man United later this month will be a welcome bit of news for anyone associated with the Merseyside club. Alisson has been a brilliant presence in between the sticks for the Reds since he arrived from AS Roma last summer.
The 27-year-old put in numerous match-winning displays at the back for Klopp’s side and managed to win the UEFA Champions League in the previous campaign. The former Serie A custodian has made a total of 53 appearances for Liverpool thus far, conceding 35 goals while keeping 28 clean sheets across all competitions.
Alisson has also represented the Brazilian national side in 42 international matches and is currently the undisputed number one goalkeeper for his nation ahead of Manchester City’s Ederson. He recently won the UEFA Men’s Player of the year for his outstanding contributions for Liverpool in this calendar year.
There is no doubt that Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers in European football at the moment. However, he sustained a calf injury back in the opening weekend of this Premier League campaign which has kept him out of action. Fortunately for the Brazilian, Adrian has done well in his absence after helping the Reds emerge victorious in all of their seven league matches thus far.
Alisson’s Return Likely To Be Against Man United: Huge Boost For Klopp?
Alisson boasts sensational reflexes and can distribute the ball accurately from the back. He is very good with his feet and has established himself as one of the most important members of Klopp’s team. His potential return from injury versus Man United will be a massive boost for the European champions as they will need him to launch attacks out from the back.
Even though Adrian has been excellent with his shot-stopping, there are still a few questions marks over whether he can pass the ball safely without losing possession. Thus, Alisson’s return will fix that concern as he is a terrific distributor of the ball and can pick out Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s runs up top.
For now, Klopp shouldn’t be too concerned about the Brazilian goalie’s return as Liverpool have enough in their tank to secure wins over RB Salzburg and Leicester City respectively before the commencement of another international break.
