Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia set to undergo an operation as he fractured his arm, during the 1-0 win against Manchester City.
Matteo Darmian replaced him in the starting lineup against Burnley. Valencia has been Mourinho’s first choice right-back in the defence and has been pretty good for The Red Devils, however, there is no certainty over his comeback. United have struggled recently as Eric Bailly, and Chris Smalling are also out of the fray due to injuries.
United confirmed Valencia’s injury on twitter, “Antonio Valencia has a fracture in his arm and will have surgery today.”
At the pre-match press conference, Jose Mourinho said, “They were the three players that start almost every match in the Premier League and now we lose all three in the same period, but that’s football and it’s an opportunity for others to play. We trust Darmian and we trust Marcos Rojo to have a positive influence.”
Valencia’s injury means Mourinho now only has a handful of defenders to pick from as Phil Jones is yet to be fit.
